CONTEMPORARY BATIK TUTORIALS

Experience the magic of Batik! Traditional Batik is the art of decorating fabric using a hot wax resist and dye, but we’ll take the process in several directions using dark tissue papers, paper and fabric and a combination of batik papers in a combination of the wax resist and inks to create 4 truly magical pieces of art.

BATIK on PAPER

Learn the basic batik techniques while working with paper. You’ll use brushes and mark-making tools with a wax resist then layering with inks. Finally iron off all the wax revealing all the colors.

Batik on Fabric

Learn the basic batik techniques while working on fabric. Draw your own design or use a photo copy drawing as inspiration. You’ll use brushes and mark-making tools with a wax resist then layering with heat set fabric dyes.

Batik on Black Tissue

Begin this technique on wrinkled black tissue . You’ll use brushes and mark-making tools with a wax resist to areas you want black, then bleach areas where you want color. Next layering with inks and wax you'll be amazed how the color travels in the crevices of the wrinkles adding incredible dimension to your piece.

Batik Collage

This advanced batik technique adds a collage element to your work.  Working with layers of various papers, you’ll use brushes and mark-making tools with a wax resist then layering with inks. Finally as a last layer you'll add transparent technique of print paper napkins.
